Interculturality in English Teaching: a Translation-based Perspective
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to show how translation can be used in English classes as a communicative tool guided by an intercultural bias and the development of the four language skills; reading, speaking, listening and writing, required in communicative language teaching. The article presents how translation is able to promote cultural dialogism between the socio-cultural representations when it is considered under the perspective of Interculturalism. We believe that through the translation and language concepts advocated by Jakobson and Venuti (1959/2000) and the positions on intercultural defended by Janzen, (2005) the teaching of English can use all translation features as effective educational tools for both teachers and students.
