A ARTICULAÇÃO ENTRE INDIVIDUALIDADE E COLETIVIDADE NA RETÓRICA TESTEMUNHAL DE ON EARTH WE’RE BRIEFLY GORGEOUS (2019), DE OCEAN VUONG
Abstract
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous (2019), romance de Ocean Vuong (1988-), é o objeto deste trabalho, que analisa as estratégias retóricas empregadas pelo protagonista, Little Dog, para construir um discurso pessoal que reflete experiências coletivas de sua comunidade vietnamita-americana queer nos Estados Unidos. Isso inclui identificar os elementos lexicais que evidenciam essa retoricidade e descrever quais vivências desse grupo são visibilizadas pela linguagem do personagem. Uma análise textual (Belsey, 2013) foi conduzida incorporando a retórica testemunhal (Sarlo, 2007) como expressão literária, o hibridismo (Pelaud, 2011), que investiga interseções socioculturais da identidade vietnamita-americana, e a leitura queer (Stockton, 2023), que examina representações de jornadas não heterossexuais. As discussões sugerem que a narrativa intimista de Little Dog transcende o autobiográfico e que suas lutas identitárias não são casos isolados. Assim, Vuong constrói um personagem que alcança o objetivo de preservar histórias e corpos que, embora frequentemente esquecidos, continuam a existir.
