DIVERSITY AND REPRESENTATIVENESS OF BIRDS DEPOSITED IN SCIENTIFIC COLLECTION OF JOSÉ HIDASI ZOOLOGY MUSEUM (MZJH), PORTO NACIONAL – TO
Abstract
In Brazil there are 1,971 bird species. However, the anthropogenic processes are a threat to this diversity. Scientific collections are essential, because they are collections of species that promote conclusions about biological diversity, and they are also important as databases, essentials for taxonomic studies. The MZJH (José Hidasi Zoology Museum) in a preliminary survey, features more than 7,000 specimens in its scientific collection, with different animal groups. This work presents data resulting from the PIBIC/UNITINS project, thus, our objective is to present a species bird list, registred in the collection as well as its representativeness. The specimens have had their data compiled, to attend important information of the individuals, registered with a new numbering, and organized in cabinets, following the taxonomic categories. Later, the information was stored in the Specibase program. The nomenclature update and organization of the collection follow the proposal of Brazilian Ornithological Records Committee (CBRO). A total of 2,545 specimens were cataloged in the bird’s scientific collection of the MZJH, where the order with larger number of specimens was Passeriformes, followed for Psittaciformes. The collection includes native Brazilian specimens (2,197) and exotic (348). Of the total specimens, 457 are from the state of Tocantins, that are distributed in 177 species, representing 28.2% of all birds described for the state.
