Abstract

This text reflects aboute the monitoring of indigenous students in higher education, specifically at the Federal University of Tocantins - UFT. It presents a brief historical retrospective of indigenous education in Brazil and the process of teacher training, seeking to understand, through bibliographic records, what the Indians yearn for a quality education. From this, it highlight the demands, experiences and difficulties experienced in the academic environment, based on the reflections obtained through indigenous monitoring at UFT, in the year 2017, in the degree course in Philosophy. This study allowed a broader view on the importance of an academic monitoring for the training of indigenous teachers aiming at improvements in the quality of teaching, research and extension in the university context. There is a need for studies in the area, since studies addressing this question are still little explored in educational institutions.
