CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ORGANIC PRODUCTS MARKET AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR BRAZIL

Abstract

Recently, the sector of organic products has gained great importance for the advancement of economic activity,
mainly in developing countries. The production of organic food is one of the main approaches for sustainable
agriculture, which in recent years has increased 30% in 2020 in Brazil. The growing demand for organic
products in the world has created new opportunities, mainly for export, being an opportunity for countries that
have organic production systems. The objective of this study was to characterize the current market for organic
products in Brazil and demonstrate strategies could be generated for the development of the marketing channel.
The results showed that the world sales of organic products generated 150 billion dollars in 2019, representing
an average growth of 10.37% per year. With a growth projection between 3.7% and 10%, it can reach sales of
up to 300 million dollars per year. For Brazil, the results showed that the region with the highest number of
registered producers for organic production is the Southeast with 28.6%, in contrast to the Northeast region
presented the highest percentage of certified producers (25.9%). Conclude that Brazil has great opportunities
to export organic products, which will bring benefits for food security and the Brazilian economy.
