ACTIONS TO EXPLORE THE POTENTIAL GROWTH OF USE OF OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES IN SOUTH AMERICA
Abstract
This study aimed to identify actions to increase the use of OER in South America. The study used data from a survey of 749 universities in Brazil, Chile and Colombia. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test using SPSS software. The cost reduction for students is one of the main motivators for the use of OER, however, several barriers are identified for its use. It was concluded that the government has a great role to play in the potential increase of OER users, since it is necessary to establish governmental policies that stimulate the creation of these resources in the different areas of knowledge and with adequate quality criteria, that the language barrier be reduced and questions about the quality of resources be reduced, as well as investments in hardware infrastructures and Internet access and digital skill development.
