USE OF CLASSIFIERS IN “DIA INTERNACIONAL DA MULHER”, BY RIMAR SEGALA:
Abstract
In the last two decades, there has been a growing demand for studies on Literature in Brazilian Sign Language – Libras. Such studies still need to define the grounds of the field, by defining corpora, analytical methods and theories that meet the specificities of visual languages, so as not to reproduce a hearist paradigm that lowers deaf literature. This paper presents an analysis of the use of classifier morphemes in “Dia internacional da mulher”, by Rimar Segala, so as to identify how this linguistic resource, of particular importance to sign languages due to its possibilities of visual-spatial description, helps creating poetic images through iconicity. As a result, we evidence that the use of classifiers in specific moments of the text analyzed highlights the symbolic value of the poetic images they name and transgresses lexical conventions of Libras, thereby triggering an aesthetic denaturalization of how one sees the language.
