We take into acount that the alternative media can contribute to the development of school newspapers, mainly in a critical perspective that consider alternative projects to mainstream journalism (BONINI, 2017). Therefore, the concepts of media and community/alternative journalism are debated, using authors of the Journalism scientific area. The notion of literacy developed by Paulo Freire (1967; 1987), that understands literacy as the moment of emancipation of the participant, is also used in the discussion. Lastly, the Cricital Genre Analysis is discussed, as an approach that can organize/give support to the school newspaper practices.
