Helena Haapio is an International Contract Strategist for Lexpert Ltd based in Helsinki, Finland. Before founding Lexpert, she served for several years as in-house legal counsel. She holds a Diploma in Legal Studies (University of Cambridge) and a Master of Laws - LL.M. (Turku). She teaches at the University of Vaasa, Finland as an Associate Professor of Business Law. She makes research on proactive contracting, preventive law, user-centered contract design, visualization, design patterns, and text/image relationships to simplify contracting processes and documents. She is an author and editor, with several articles published and two books co-authored with Prof. George Siedel: (a) A short guide to contract risk, (b) Proactive law for managers: a hidden source of competitive advantage. She is also the co-founder of the WWC (World Commerce and Contracting) Library, formerly known as the International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM).
Dominique Meert is a Belgium legal professional working at her legal design agency in Antwerp. She is an expert in legal information and visual designer, combining an academic background in Economics and Law, with additional certificates in Business Design Thinking, Digital Strategy, and Successful Innovation. Her professional background includes marketing, law, management, and banking. She is the founder of the Visual Lawyer agency and 2KnowHow2, both legal agencies helping communicate complex legal information with visual language. Her legal design agency provides Visual Law and Legal Design training in English, French, and Dutch.
For this research developed by Nupedia-UFMT-Brasil, Helena Haapio and Dominique Meert are considered experts in the field of visual law, visualization, legal design, and smart contracts using innovation to craft a future of inclusion for non-legal peers with a better understanding of rights and obligations, clarity in contracts and legal documents, to reduce litigation, and encourage more cooperation and commitment among people.
