  • João Araújo Universidade Federal da Bahia

Abstract

Proposing to analyze the narrative structures engaged in Game of Thrones’ first season, this paper aims to uncover the strategies the show employs to strengthen the fictional pact it establishes with its audience, thus building a more believable and immersible fictional world. In that sense, this work observes the approaches engaged in the exposition of series’ narrative, its temporal structures, the dynamics involved the establishing of its setting, and the parameters through which its characters are built. Finally, we discuss our findings and what can be gained from this type of study, arguing the importance of this kind of research for a better understanding of the nature of the relationship between a fictional work and its audience.
