RESISTANCE OF CORN GENOTYPES INDICATED FOR TOCANTINS IN RELATION TO CORN LEAFHOPPER

Abstract

The corn leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) represents a serious threat to the crop, causing
direct and indirect damage to plants. Sustainable solutions within the Integrated Pest Management of corn are
necessary. This study aimed to investigate the manifestation of resistance by non-preference and/or tolerance
in 7 genotypes against Dalbulus maidis under field conditions. The attractiveness of the pest to different
genotypes was frequently evaluated, as well as the percentage of plants with corn stunt disease and
productivity. A mirror test for comparison was important to handle conventional chemical products, in order
to be able to compare the tolerance data. Data were released for analysis of variance by the F test and revealed
that the use of insecticides negatively influenced corn leafhopper populations in all genotypes. ‘AG1051’,
’AV4142’ stood out with lower absolute values of Dalbulus maidis adults in their plants, suggesting the
presence of antixenotic resistance.
