PRODUCTIVITY AND FLOWERING OF FERTIRRIGATED ONIONS UNDER PHOSPHORUS SPLIT APPLICATIONS AT DIFFERENT POPULATION DENSITIES
Abstract
Studies identifying the need for phosphorus splitting to maximize onion productivity are essential in different production systems. The study aimed to assess the influence of phosphorus splitting at different plant densities on onion productivity and flowering in a drip fertigation system. The treatments were four plant densities (300, 400, 500, and 600 thousand plants ha-1) and three installments (weekly, biweekly, and monthly) of the total dose of phosphorus recommended by the soil analysis distributed throughout the vegetative cycle via fertigation. The productivity of classes 2, 3, and 4 and flowering were evaluated. Phosphorus plots can be carried out monthly without interfering with onion productivity and flowering in a fertigation system. Plant densities of 300 to 500 thousand plants ha-1 provide the highest formation of class 3 and 4 bulbs. A quarter of the plant’s flower when subjected to average minimum temperatures below 13ºC for more than ninety days. The increase in plant density contributes to an increase in onion flowering.
