Corn (Zea mays) is a cereal of great economic importance and relevance in the trade balance, it serves as a
basis for both human and animal feed because of its high levels of starch. The leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis),
on the other hand, is a species responsible for significant losses in corn production, by transmitting the causal
agents of stunting and thin streaking to the plants. This work aimed to evaluate the potential use of plant
extracts in the control of Dalbulus maidis. The experiment was developed with strip design. The treatments
consisted of extracts of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora), mint (Mentha spicata), Malvasanta (Plectranthus
barbatus), monkey pepper (Piper aduncum) and a mixture of all plant extracts, in addition to the control. After
seven days of the extract’s application, the evaluation was carried out counting the number of
leafhoppers/plants. Before the application, all treatments had the same density of leafhoppers/plant, but after
the first application, the monkey pepper extract and the mix reduced the incidence and differed statistically
from the control. After the second application, in addition to the mix and the monkey pepper extract, the
eucalyptus extract also differed from the control in relation to the incidence of leafhopper. The eucalyptus
extracts, monkey pepper and the mix have insecticidal or repellent properties against Dalbulus maidis.
