The Tocantins Cerrado is a transitional biome between the Amazon and the central Cerrado, characterized by high biodiversity and significant ecological relevance. It features diverse soils and important water resources, supporting regional agriculture, livestock, and conservation efforts. This study aimed to compare the physical and chemical properties of a Typical Orthic Quartzipsamment (Neossolo Quartzarênico Órtico Típico) in two areas of the Tocantins Cerrado: an agricultural area and a native area. Morphological, chemical, physical, and granulometric analyses were performed at depths of 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm. The results showed that the agricultural area presented greater resistance to penetration in deeper layers, indicating possible compaction caused by mechanized tillage. However, the chemical attributes obtained higher values in the agricultural area, with higher organic matter contents, higher pH, greater availability of phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium, and greater cation exchange capacity (CEC), in addition to lower aluminum saturation. A sandy texture was predominant in both areas. It is concluded that agricultural use, although negatively affecting the physical structure of the soil, promotes improvements in soil fertility and chemical attributes, when managed properly.
