In the tropical environment, rice is produced in the North, Northeast and Midwest regions and occupies an area of 13.2%. Despite being responsible for only 20% of national production, rice from tropical environment plays an important role for food security in Brazil. In this study, the objective was to identify climatic risks and to define the best sowing periods for irrigated rice in Tocantins state. The rice crop model ORYZAv3 was parameterized and validated. According to the results from the crop model simulations, the increase in climatic risk from 30% (70% of success) to 20% (80% of success) reduces the window sowing for October to December. However, to acheave the rice cultivar potential production is recomended to sow from October to mid-November .
