In lettuce cultivation, there are strategies that reduce the solar radiation on the plant, one of them is shading
screens that reduce the light on the planting. The objective of this study was to evaluate iceberg lettuce
productivity using different levels of shading in the climatic conditions of Palmas, state of Tocantins. The
experiment was conducted in seedbeds, where four treatments were evaluated from March to June 2019, using
the experimental design in randomized blocks, with four replications. The iceberg lettuce cultivar (Rafaela)
was adopted in four growing environments (shading screens 30%, 50%, 80% and open field). At the end of
the experiment, stem length, number of leaves per plant, fresh and dry weight of the plants were analyzed. We
could conclude that the production of iceberg lettuce (Rafaela) in cultivation environments with 30% shading,
presented the best productive performance, with greater accumulation of fresh and dry matter mass and amount
of leaves per plant.
