Abstract

The species Hymenaea courbaril, popularly known as Jatobá of the Amazon, has several reports in popular medicine, and studies have confirmed antimicrobial, antifungal, larvicidal and antioxidant activities. This work aimed to detect the metabolites present in the shell and pulp of Hymenaea courbaril and to elaborate a handmade soap with this raw material. The fruits of Jatobá were collected in the town of Coari, Amazonia. The extracts were obtained by maceration using hexane, dichloromethane, ethanol, and methanol solvents. The results show the presence of the following compounds: Anthocyanidins, Chalcone, Leucoantocyanidin, Catechins, Phenolic Compounds and Saponins. We prepared a handmade soap which showed cleansing parameters, creaminess, and physicochemical characteristics considered of good quality for personal use and with good acceptability. Through this work, a product could be crafted from an Amazonian fruit, generating knowledge about this scientifically little studied species that carries biotechnological potential.
